Evening Herald Sports Coach of the Year

Congratulations to Mr. Alan O’ Neill who was named Evening Herald Sports Coach of the Year 2016 at a ceremony in the Aviva Stadium.

This is a great honour for Mr. A O Neill and richly deserved as he is a dedicated and committed coach, who has inspired and helped so many students on their journey through life. From all the staff and management, well done!!

Here in St. Aidan’s our principal has a great appreciation for all who give up their free time to all the extra- curricular activities and to everyone else who supports the extra- curricular life of the school.

“We firmly believe that our extra- curricular activities are something we should all be very proud of and the success of our students would not be possible without the huge commitment given by so many staff.”

Badminton Club Championships

We held our first badminton club championships on the 26th of April and all year groups were represented. This was the final event in the badminton calendar for the year and saw 32 students from all age groups take part over three hours. There was great competition between the students with First Years playing off against Sixth Years in the first round. Needless to say there were quite a few upsets in the rankings with a few of our U19 players being beaten by U16s and U14s! The final expected to see Seán Power retain his number one status over Jerome Linkwinstar; however, this final was not to be. First year Jude Denofra shocked all by putting in a great performance to beat 18 year old Seán to make it to the final. A super final was fought between Jerome and Jude with the title going to Jude in a fantastic 20-19 final score! No doubt Jude is a talent to watch for the future. Maith thú Jude!

More Squash on the Way

In May, 15 third years took part in a squash training session with Irish coach Frank Donnelly. The students were kindly accommodated in Sports Link in Santry. All students greatly enjoyed the training session and hopefully this will lead to St. Aidan’s having their first squash team next year.

1st year Soccer Tournament
