For the past 5 years, St Aidan’s has offered students of all abilities, from all year groups the opportunity to learn how to play the sport of Chess through regular lunch-time meet-ups as well as taking part in competitions, both in-school and against other clubs and schools throughout Leinster.
We use Chess to promote inclusiveness as well as responsibility in St Aidan’s. Senior students are encouraged to play with/against Junior students with a view to them passing on the skills they have learned.
Skills such as turn-taking, patience and forward-planning are developed through playing Chess.
The Chess Club represents the school in numerous local, provincial and national competitions throughout the year.
Any students that do not know how to play Chess, learn; and those who are adept play in the annual St Aidan’s Chess Tournament.
Our current Chess Champion(s) is/are:
Dylan Jordan 2N.
Hakesh Mani Kandan 2W.
More information about the Chess Club can be found on the St Aidan’s Chess Club Google Classroom Page or by getting in touch with Mr Hennell.
We look forward to you coming along to “Check” us out in the near future.
