TRANSITION YEAR WORK EXPERIENCE
FORMAT
Transition Year Work Experience Placement takes place each Wednesday during the academic term. The first session begins in September and the second session begins in January.
APPLICATIONS
Where possible, students are encouraged to find placements in work related to the career in which they have a special interest. It is the responsibility of each student to make his own application and to find their own work experience placement as this is an essential element of preparation for the world of work. Students are not paid for work experience.
EXCEPTIONAL WORK PLACEMENTS
Week placements: In some limited instances employers may only be able to offer a block week of work experience. Where these placements are of a high value to the students career choices the student may submit an application to the Ty Coordinator for permission to be released for this week.
PLACEMENT DETAILS
The facilitating employer will be required to complete The Work Placement form confirming the availability, nature and dates of work experience. This must be given to the Programme Coordinator.
INSURANCE
Transition Year students are insured by the school insurers. Employers will be given a document containing the St Aidan’s CBS insurance details, which should be filed for reference. Once all employers have complied with the recommended Covid procedures, students are insured.
VETTING
Students over 16 years of age who will be working with children or vulnerable adults must complete Garda Vetting Forms are distributed by the TY Coordinator
ATTENDANCE
Students must attend at work experience on each designated day. If unable to attend the student must notify the employer as soon as possible and present a written explanation to the school for the absence.
MONITORING/FEEDBACK
The TY Coordinator/ mentor will make a phone call to the employer during the Work placement and provide feedback to students. After each day of work experience students are required to update their work experience section in their TY Work Experience booklet. It is imperative that this is accurately and diligently completed as it is the mechanism which assesses the learning.
